Thomas Yoo's practice focuses on providing counsel to businesses and individuals on matters such as such as structuring transactions and protecting one's intellectual property rights. Mr. Yoo advises businesses on matters such as employment law, landlord tenant issues, business transactions and on how to protect and promote their intellectual property. He has gained substantial experience in drafting various contracts and closing deals.
Among his clientele, Mr. Yoo has worked with a wide variety of clients, including, but not limited to, fashion designers, apparel manufacturers, musicians, restaurant owners and high-net individuals. One notable client owned land in Oklahoma. Mr. Yoo successfully negotiated an astonishing seven figure deal for an oil and gas lease against an oil production company that is a component of the S&P 500. Subsequently, he became known as the attorney from LA among the oil and gas industry in Oklahoma for what he was able to accomplish.
Film production companies, record labels, restaurants, construction companies, and high-net worth individuals, and handled trademark and copyright enforcement proceedings for a wide variety of clients.
Prior to entering law school, Mr. Yoo began his career at Marsh & McLennan Companies during his undergraduate studies and then went on to work at Perr & Knight, an actuarial consulting firm. During his time at law school, Mr. Yoo received the CALI Achievement Honor for Secured Transactions and won first place in the annual bankruptcy writing competition of the California Bar Association Section of Business Committee on Insolvency. Further, he was recognized as a Semi-finalist at Southwestern Law School’s Negotiations Intramural Competition.
Mr. Yoo received his B.S. in Actuarial Science from The Pennsylvania State University and received his J.D. from Southwestern Law School. He is licensed to practice law in California.
As Mr. Yoo developed into an experienced deal negotiator, he expanded his practice to represent individuals who sustained injuries from accidents.
Further, Mr. Yoo handles motion picture development, financing, production and distribution. I have worked with film financiers and production companies on budgets ranging from $3-50MM. In addition, I have drafted and negotiated book option deals to obtain the audio-visual book rights. I have also worked on obtaining life rights and consultation rights for individuals. Mr. Yoo now serves as head of Business and Legal Affairs for an independent film financing and production company.
